SISSA Medialab provides consultancy services for communication strategy, produces editorial and multimedia products, designs events, exhibitions, and museum setups, and develops software and tools for scientific publishing.

Consulenze

Support in identifying effective communication strategies, including assistance in defining SMART goals, KPIs, and target audiences. Among recent projects, SISSA Medialab developed the new communication plan for JoTTO, the Joint Technology Transfer Office of six Italian special ordinance schools.

In collaboration with some publishing houses, SISSA Medialab publishes scientific books exploring various themes, from the narrative of the Trieste scientific system to current best practices in science journalism, to the analysis of the relationship between science and society, starting from the impact that women scientists have had in the research world.

Thanks to its experience in science journalism, SISSA Medialab supports science festivals and other institutions in their press office activities. The media relationships built over the years enable the release of news, interviews, and other content in all major national media outlets, including print, online, and radio. Since 2017, SISSA Medialab has been responsible for the press office of the Trieste Next scientific research festival.

SISSA Medialab has always been committed to promoting dialogue between science and society, also employing and developing participatory methodologies such as discussion games. Over the years, it has facilitated debates on controversial issues, fostering the process of building scientific citizenship.

SISSA Medialab produces multimedia content with a scientific focus. Recently, it has produced two podcasts in media partnership with Le Scienze: "Paper - come la scienza diventa scienza" and "Ad Astra - storie dall’universo". Currently, it is working on creating video interviews for the project "Racconti di Donne e di Scienza" in collaboration with the FVG region.

SISSA Medialab designs and implements museum setups and exhibitions on scientific themes. Over the years, it has provided consultancy services for the creation of scientific museums and science centres. Some exhibitions include: "Trieste e la scienza""L’arcipelago delle meraviglie" dedicated to the scientist Paolo Budinich, "Lise chi?", the travelling exhibition dedicated to the scientist Lise Meitner.

Book presentations, conferences, and public scientific events. SISSA Medialab offers its expertise in organising events and appointments that promote open dialogue between researchers and society. On behalf of SISSA, it organises guided tours, Open Days and Student Days.

SISSA Medialab develops Content Management Systems (CMS) in Django/Python for various purposes and has extensive experience in preparing and processing scientific files and data. It has developed open-source software for managing journals, platforms for organising conferences, and tools for automatic file parsing. Within the SISSA Medialab working group, there is a strong expertise and experience in using LaTeX.
