Nasce Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan (1887-1920), geniale matematico indiano autodidatta, ha scoperto (oppure riscoperto) numerosi teoremi matematici, interessando il matematico Godfrey Hardy (1877-1947), che lo ha preso come assistente.
